Pop-Up CPR Training Sessions

PLEASE NOTE THIS PROGRAM IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT MEDICAL STUDENTS.

Are you interested in developing your CV as a medical student? Why not volunteer with us and teach members of the public CPR!

At Journey to Healthcare we run pop-up training sessions across various London train stations and teach members of the public CPR as they go about their day! This is an amazing way of giving back whilst developing your portfolio. Once you have hit a minimum of 10 hours of volunteering, you will also receive a certificate as proof that you have volunteered with us. This can be used for specialty applications to show dedication to the profession but also to simply enhance your CV.

How does it work?

1. Complete your training session.

Before you can complete a session in public, you must attend our 1.5 hour training session which will be run by an FY2 doctor. In this session we will also cover how to teach such a vital skill and how to do so in only 6-8 minutes. Do not worry if you have no basic life support experience, we will ensure everyone is comfortable and competent before we allow you to take on a session. These training sessions will be repeated on a monthly basis.

2. Provide us with more information.

We will then send you a form for you to provide us with more information about yourself such as emergency contacts. Once you have provided us with this information you will be cleared to help with in person sessions.

3. Attend sessions.

Once all previous steps have been completed, we will add you to our group chat filled with other medical students who have done the same! This could be an amazing opportunity to network with other medics from other universities and years.

Every two weeks/ month, we will market sessions. These could be either AM (10:00-15:30) or PM (15:00-20:00). You can then sign up to whatever days and sessions you’d like to do. If you’d like, you could do one long shift as well! IMPORTANT: For a session to run, we need exactly 5 volunteers. So, if you know you can no longer attend it is important you let us know as soon as possible. Each session will have 1 supervisor and 4 instructors (You).

Our focus for the new year is to not just educate the public on how to perform CPR but also empower them to do so for everyone. For this reason we have invested in both male and female CPR dummies as CPR is less likely to be done on women/done correctly.

You will also be given the opportunity to attend basic life support teaching sessions in secondary schools which are 2 hour long sessions. For these to occur we would only need 1 supervisor and 1 volunteer.

If you enjoy your time at Journey to Healthcare, there are opportunities for you to become a supervisor as well based on your commitment and engagement with the rest of the team.

4. Gain your certificate.

After each session, you will be asked to log your hours on our online volunteer portal. This will then be approved by your supervisor on the day to confirm your attendance.

Once you are satisfied with the amount of hours you have completed, you can request for a certificate using the portal and we will provide this to you within 48 hours. This certificate will be signed by both an assigned doctor, your clinical point of contact and a company director, as a company point of contact.
