What to do on the day of your UCAT exam

What to do the day of your UCAT exam

Congratulations! It is finally time to sit your UCAT exam. All those hours of practice questions and mock exams lead up to this very moment. It is extremely important to make sure you take the right steps on exam day, so that you are able to achieve the highest score possible.

No UCAT preparation the morning of your exam

Although you may feel that some last-minute prep will be beneficial for you, it is vital that you relax before your exam. Trying to cram extra preparation in, will most likely result in you feeling unnecessarily stressed, which is the last thing you want. You may find it useful to go on a walk, or spend some time doing activities you enjoy. If you really feel like you need to do some work, have a light read over some of the abstract reasoning patterns you may have written down over the past few weeks.

Look at when and where your exam is taking place

You definitely do not want to be late for your UCAT exam. This will result in you not being able to take the exam, which is not ideal. It is recommended that you reach the centre at least 15 mins before the stated time, so that there is enough time to check in. I turned up 45 mins early, which was probably a bit excessive, but I was able to walk around the local area and have some time to relax. Look at the address of your centre too, and ensure you know how you are travelling there, taking into account any strikes or other delays that may be occurring.

Ensure you have the correct ID

You will need to present some form of identification at the front desk, when you check in for your exam. If it is not an accepted form, you will not be allowed to test. Any ID will need to be valid and up to date. Accepted IDs include passports, and driving licenses (provisional or full) at test centres in the country of issue. Double check whether you have a valid form of ID beforehand.

Finally, this exam is not the only way into medicine/dentistry. If you don’t perform as well, there are other routes for you. Try and remain calm on the day of your exam. I wish you all the best of luck!
